David Kiss

Principal Wealth Manager · HNW Private Client Strategy

HNW specialist. Leads advisory across the firm's most complex personal and family wealth.

David Kiss is the firm's Principal Wealth Manager and the lead advisory voice across William James. He has worked in financial services since 2015 and qualified as a financial adviser in 2019. Most recently, he spent three years at one of the UK's largest national financial advice firms, managing complex cases for high net worth clients and refining his work in advanced tax mitigation.

His core areas of expertise are tax efficiency, including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and Income Tax mitigation; retirement planning, including pension strategy and sustainable withdrawal design; and high net worth portfolio management across multi-generational wealth and intricate financial structures.

At William James, David leads advisory for the firm's most complex personal and family relationships, including business owners, multi-generational families, and clients with cross-jurisdictional positions. Where the work calls for it, he coordinates a wider professional team across solicitors, accountants, trustees, and corporate advisers. The aim is always one shared view, held in confidence, working to one plan.

Nicola Schutrups, Managing Partner

Nicola Schutrups

Managing Partner

Operations and client experience. Holds the firm to the standard the brand demands.

Nicola joined the wider Schutrups group in 2015 and became Managing Director of The Mortgage Hut in 2022, where she leads a team of around 30 advisers and oversees more than 2,000 customer enquiries every month. She has held directorships across Police Mortgages, Airline Mortgage Shop, and Mortgage Capacity Reports, and earlier in her career spent five years as a Cabin Service Manager with British Airways after a period in banking.

What she brings to William James is the operational rigour and client-experience discipline that running a high-volume advisory practice teaches. She is known for moving the wider business to an employed adviser model, which improved both customer outcomes and the firm's ability to recruit and retain talented people. The discretion the firm is known for is, in practice, the result of how she runs it.

As Managing Partner she holds the brief that every client relationship is led by a senior adviser. No call centres, no juniors, no handoffs. She is also the practical point of contact for clients with operational questions, and the person who makes sure every commitment the firm makes is delivered with the care the relationship deserves.

Chris Schutrups, Founder

Chris Schutrups

Founder

Founder. Sets the firm's long-term direction and the standards expected of every adviser.

Chris has spent more than fifteen years building financial services businesses. He founded The Mortgage Hut in 2011, and went on to launch Police Mortgages, Airline Mortgage Shop, and the digital mortgage platform Pagaro. He has previously served as Managing Director of Mortgage Finder, the largest mortgage advisory firm in the UAE, and is a regular contributor on financial topics to Bloomberg, Reuters, BBC, the Sunday Times, and The Times.

He founded William James on a simple premise. Wealth management had become standardised, and the relationships at its centre had quietly disappeared. He built the firm to do the opposite: a small group of senior advisers, working directly with a small number of clients, treating each relationship with the discretion private wealth deserves.

His role today is to set the firm's long-term direction and the standard expected of every adviser. He remains directly involved with a small number of long-standing client relationships and takes a hands-on view of the firm's strategic decisions. The approach is editorial in its discipline. The firm only takes on work it can do well, only grows at the pace its standards allow, and only works with clients who value the long view as much as he does.
